Phillies Wall of Fame...Vote for Dutch!

Once again in 2010, fans will have a voice in which former player, coach or manager is selected to the Phillies Wall of Fame this year. Voting is underway and ends at 5 p.m. ET on Tuesday, March 23.

Fans can select their top three choices from a 12-man ballot of Phillies alumni. A first place vote is worth five points, second place three points and third place one point. The top five fan consensus choices as determined by total points will serve as the official ballot for a special Wall of Fame Selection Committee that will choose this year's inductee. - Phillies.com

It's time again for vote for the next Phillies Player to be inducted on to the Phillies of fame and once again the Phans will get to vote.

I think it is time to vote in the Captain of our beloved 1993 World Series Time. Darren Daulton was the clubhouse leader and the general on the field. His leadership is one the reasons, the Phillies came out of nowhere, shocked the Braves and were a few pitches away from forcing a World Series Game 7. We all know Dutch has gotten a little cooky over the years with his 2012 thinking, but his off the field post playing days shouldn't time him out of the Phillies Wall of Fame. Plus, for those of us that watched Comcast last post-season, Dutch provided great commentary on Post Game Live.

Granted Daulton didn't have great numbers career wise, in 1992-1993 Daulton was one of the best in baseball. He won an R.B.I title, a Silver Slugger Award, and a was named a All-Star.

Dutch is arguably the greatest catcher in Phillies history. In a June 2008 article, Jayson Stark, the ESPN analyst and former Phillies beat writer and columnist for The Philadelphia Inquirer, pick Daulton as the greatest catcher in Phillies history.

In the article, Stark is quoted at saying:

"The charismatic Daulton was a superb leader, the unquestioned king of the Macho Row Phillies who went to the 1993 World Series.

A three-time All-Star, he had the two best seasons in Phillies history by a catcher, 1992 and 1993. He hit. 270 with 20 homers and an NL-high 109 RBIs in ’92 — just the fourth catcher in major league history to win an RBI title — then hit .257 with 24 homers and 105 RBIs in ‘93.

During Daulton’s 12 seasons as a catcher — he played the outfield in 1996 and ’97 — he hit .244 with 123 homers and 525 RBIs.

It’s that offensive pop, as well as the leadership, that sways Stark."

So in closing, I firmly believe it time Philies Phans gave Darren Daulton his due and enshrine the greatest catcher in Phillies history on our Wall of Fame.

Happy Pitchers and Catchers Day

Spring is right around the corner as we are on the eve of the first official workouts for the Phillies Pitchers and Catchers. Many of our Phightin Phils have been in camp for a while now as the Phillies try to become the first National League Team to win 3 consecutive pennants since the 1942-1944 St. Louis Cardinals. The Phils are in great shape to follow in the those footsteps, that Cardinals team won the World Series in 1942, lost in '43 and then won again in 1944.

Leading the Phillies staff this year is Roy Halladay, who is considered by most to be the best pitcher in baseball. Halladay, who lives close to Clearwater has been in camp for weeks. This is the first time in Halladay's illustrious career that he has had the opportunity to pitch for a contender and plans to make the most of it. I, for one, am truly excited about seeing Roy pitch.

The highlight for today, aside from the fact that the boys of summer are back, was Brad Lidge addressing the media. Lidge started off by telling the media that "I'm going to burn my '09 shirts and we'll get this over with and move forward from there." Lidge, who as we all know had a horrific year, finally admitted that he was nowhere near 100% last season, as he was suffering from an injured elbow and knee, both have been surgically repaired. This is great news for Phillies Phans. Brad Lidge was key to winning the 2008 World Series and will be vital in chasing the '42-'44 dynasty of the Cardinals.

Tomorrow we will hear from Cole Hamels, who also looks to bounce back from an awful season. Phinally on Friday, Roy Hallaway will take the stage.

This is an exciting time for Phillies Phans, for this is first time since the late '70s that the Phightins have been a contender for this long a time. I for one can't wait for this season to begin.

Let's Go Phils!

It's been an exciting off season so far this year for the 2 time defending National League Champions. Now that Danys Baez signing is official, I will provide my opinion of off-season moves the Phillies Front Office has made.

Thanks for reading.
